So, I'd commented on another thread that my power steering fluid was just below minimum, I'd been at my agent's and mentioned it whilst it was in for other things.

It came back out again with no more fluid in it than it had gone it with as they didn't have any in stock - it was not what I'd call normal red ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid); but rather what was referred to at the time as "that German green stuff".

On closer inspection of the power steering reservoir, it has "CHF Oil only" printed on the cap:

And my friend Google tells me:

"CHF stands for central hydraulic fluid. A specialised fully synthetic hydraulic fluid designed for use in the automotive industry. Green in colour. Excellent low temperature properties. High thermal stability. Superior oxidation resistance.

When BMW uses it, it's because the power steering pump is also driving hydraulic systems on the car besides just the steering gear. Some models feature a component called a "tandem vane pump" which means the pump can supply several circuits on the car at once."

It's easy to find suppliers of this labelled as 11S, such as:

but it would be good to confirm that this is correct before pouring it in.

Says Fuchs now own Pentosin
A little Google says they bought the company in 2015 and all Pentosin oils were rebranded to Fuchs Titan in 2019.

So Ineos info is more than a little out of date; or they bought a job lot of finely aged new old stock. 😂

Sounds liked they didn't give a Fuchs

I remember my father had "Pentosin" in the 70ies or 80ies for his car.

But it was a frost protection agent.

Mine was low from delivery so I bought the Febi Bilstein CHF11S. Part number 06161.
Bought off eBay for around £10/litre.
It is the BMW approved fully synthetic green fluid and seems to be performing well so far
