On the Grenadier Fence in Brisbane

Before I bought my current 4wd I specked and priced up what it would cost to do all the mods to a single cab cruiser
160k by the time I did the diff correction, auto upgrade, engine upgrade, sound proofing, improved audio and interior with a brake upgrade and to top it off all new suspension so it didn’t handle like a bucket of crap.
Yeah pass because all warranty is out the window with Toyota as soon as any aftermarket parts are installed

I have noticed that there has been a lot of posts recently on Ineos Grenadier Facebook pages, warning not to buy a Grenadier, as there are lots for sale due to unhappy customers.
Often when you look at the profile pages of these posters and commentor's, they don't have a single picture, or post, about their Grenadier.
I have been looking at how many are listed for sale in Australia on the main sales sites, and find many are repeats on multiple sites, but carsales.com.au seem to have the most.
So
  • 75 in total listed for sale.
  • 29 New for order online or dealer stock
  • 46 Used or demo 16 Demo and 30 listed as used
    • I have to question how "used" a vehicle with 14 kms on it really is.
  • There are only 10 vehicles listed with over 10,000 kms on them.
    • To me these are genuine used vehicles for sale, however if you go to over 5,000 kms you get 22 vehicles
    • There are 6 that have done more than 20,000 kms and only 1 that has done over 40,000 kms. (47,000 kms)
  • Of the 30 Used 7 are 2024 models and only 2 have more than 50 kms on them.
Considering there were 1,100 sold and delivered by February 2024 I would guess there have now been over 2,000 sold.
I have been told that several wagons were traded on the Quartermaster hence dealer used vehicles.

So do we consider this to be "a lot" of vehicles for sale??

I asked my newly established local dealer about the new but supposed used Grenadiers and Quatermaster's for sale interstate, and was told Ineos were overstocked in Australia and sold 2023 model's at a discount price to dealership's.
They also told me it hasent helped them with sales as they were not astablished at the time of the offer, they said the only negative is the dealerships have to register the vehicles straight away so you loose a bit of warranty.
But overall they were not happy with the arrangement as it made it look like the vehicles are being offloaded instead of 2023 run outs. Probably a consequence of the sales model Ineos use in Australia.

If you like the Grenadier and are in Brisbane buy one and enjoy it, it will be more rewarding than thinking if only. Unless someone else is paying no one needs to justify the 4x4 they bought or didn't buy. Ok, maybe justify it to the significant other. If the Ineos is going to be a daily driver the big advantage in Brisbane there is support and from all reports, and it's refreshing to hear, there are dealers and service teams that will do as much as possible to support Grenadier owners plus accessories to physically view and are available without too much travel
At least Southeast Qld Ineos dealers did not end up like the advertised Mackay dealer which never or doesn't look like ever opening, disappointing for locals keen on Grenadier or looking for other 4x4 choices with local servicing. Makes me wonder how many lost sales there were for Ineos in a high-income farming and mining region simply because of no support.
After owning, repairing and using work LC70s for many years the big mistake I see people make when considering or buying a Toyota 70 series is they expect it to be like a car or an IFS 4x4 and forget it was always built for purpose as purely a 4x4 commercial vehicle, a small Japanese light truck that, unsurprisingly, is as comfortable and handles like a small Japanese light truck, not a 70mph highway or city luxury car like most of the new 4x4 utes and wagons are more suited to.

Interesting to hear about Mackay. I’m in central Queensland in one of those mining communities you mention and I’m yet to see a single Grenadier out here, although my wife saw one towing a caravan through the other day. I’ll have one shortly and Rockhampton is my nearest dealer - I’m very interested to see what service I get in there. My first experience has been a fill in sales man who didn’t know the servicing intervals and a service department admin who said my VIN number wasn’t showing up when she searched it - then the follow up phone call And return email with more details just never happened.

I have only seen two wagons in the Mackay region, the same white one twice and an Eldoret Blue, both nicely appointed and both heading out like they were passing through to Townsville or Rocky. I keep getting ads from Townsville Ineos, maybe they're the best bet for CQ and NQ Ineos support.
I contacted and visited the dealer that was going to be the appointed dealer for Ineos in Mackay and contacted Ineos to see what was happening. Ineos gave a form letter response "We are always expanding our network" and the dealer principal for the appointed dealer emailed back with one sentence along the lines of currently they were waiting for Ineos approval, which IMO is BS with much more to the story. The dealer Ineos advertised prior to the Grenadier release is one of the biggest multi-franchise dealers in Mackay with multiple locations with well-appointed workshops and selling several very big brands as well as some Chinese brands. With no real answer or timeline from Ineos or the dealer I am guessing there are other people besides me that have held off or gone elsewhere for a new 4x4.

I’ve used the Townsville dealer for all my service needs and they have been exceptionally good. I highly recommend them for anyone needing service up this end of QLD. And if it seems a bit far then simply think of the service as an excuse to do a big drive in the gren with a smile.

Thanks - that's good to know. It would be a good excuse to come up and catch a Cowboys game also. That said i'm keen to try out Rocky and i'm hopeful for great service - the more dealerships we can patronise and support the better off the community will be as a whole.
