Look for build date. Anything in 2024 or 25 is good, they are all mostly the same.
Assuming you want a bit of luxury with leather:
Fieldmaster trim (gets you leather)
Triple lockers as option
High load center (switches in roof) as option
Tow hitch as option
Rear ladder
Make sure these above are factory options, they can do the tow hitch as aftermarket -for value get the factory option. Rear ladder can be added after, you may even find a used one. I would get one right away.
Safari windows, up to you. I love mine but you decide. Doesn't seem to affect value.
Skip second battery. Not worth it.
Side steps etc, again up to you. Easy to get in aftermarket and lots of choices. I can sell you my factory Ineos steps if you're nearby. I upgraded to rock sliders.
What to look for in a used car.
Have they rock crawled? Check underneath it and look for damage.
Check the service record for repeated complaints about steering pump whine. Some cars seem to have it, Ineos doesn't consider this an issue.
Everything else is just straight up warranty. Software is easy. Water leak in safari window -quick dealer fix.
What to get the dealer to do:
1) a really good steering alignment. Get them to print it out. It makes a huge difference
2) all recalls done. Especially sticky button recall.
3) check that steering wheel is centered. There is a ring in the top of the string wheel, when going straight it should be at the top of the steering wheel. Easy to fix at the dealer, super annoying if you don't do it.
Also you can do this or ask the dealer:
Go to a gas station with cold tires and have them set the psi to 38 on all wheels. Ideal for a stock Grenadier. Reset the tpms with the new pressure (done in the center console).
After that you should consider going to agile off-roads website and buy the fox steering damper. Takes 20 minutes to install and well worth it. Anyone can do this, or a friend. Or a gas station mechanic... Don't get the adjustable version, get the non adjustable. It will last longer and I'm sure you'll like it.
If you get the safari windows go and tint them. I put on 30% ceramic tint and it really cuts out the heat. I also put 80% ceramic tint on my driver and pass side windows (80% light transmission through the tint). Helps with heat, but I often drive in the deserts of Utah and Nevada.
Octodyne makes a little metal bracket for the steering wheel that helps me from accidentally turning on the voice command. Takes 2 minutes to install. Really nice but not strictly necessary. Octodyne sells it on their website.
After that you got a really nice setup. Or you can go hog wild like me and change out everything...
