I hope this finds everyone doing well. I am a new member and I might be in the market soon for a Grenadier. I had the opportunity to test drive 3 so far and really really like them.

I am mainly looking at used with low miles and wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on specific things you would recommend I check out before purchasing. Should the service records include all the software updates and other things that might have already been taken care of under warranty?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Carolina, and welcome to the forum. This forum is almost an essential for owners present and considering.
If resale is important. Front / Rear diff locks seem to be essential. In reality, for most users, they will hardly ever by required but prospective buyers seem to demand them. I would also strongly recommend the overhead switch panel complete with additional wiring (can't think what the name is for this panel). The diff's and the panel are almost impossible to do aftermarket. The tow bar is also highly recommended when compared to the cost of fitting an aftermarket version.

I have the sun roofs which I love but I do understand why some might choose not to option these as there have been leaks on some. Also, if living in a warm climate, they may occasionally prove problematic.
The saddle leather is one of my very favourite options and quite rare.
In the two and a half years I have owned mine, there is nothing that would put me off buying another one if I didn't already own one. I never try to sell the Grenadier to others as it is not a regular SUV type vehicle. You need to know what you are getting into. Mine was meant to be for occasional use but due to my addiction, has become my everyday driver.

Best of luck in your searches.

As these are still under warranty, software updates and such are easy to catch up. The worst failure points are front driveshaft, and coolant reservoir, again would be warrantied. Some other early teething items, but nothing crazy. As far as equipment, Chesire nailed it. Of course if you are in the US you will be using lockers all the time off road. Not getting those defeats the entire vehicle as it is designed to use lockers vs traction control as any serious off roader does. And retrofit of these items are just painful. Winch of course is needed but that is much simpler aftermarket, same for sliders. Don't worry so much about factory sliders, lots of good aftermarket options.

if you're into saving trips to the dealership, check these out.

Look for the major software update that includes turning off the annoying over speed software click noise

make sure the door/hatch buttons have been replaced if '24 (I hear they get stuck on some)

Teapot whistle steering pump is very annoying. just nudge the wheel while truck is on to listen for it. IA says it's normal operation (cough bs).

check for any white residue on the coolant expansion tanks.

If you don't plan on lifting it, you're fine with the front driveshaft issue since it'll get covered under warranty.

Have them perform an alignment with a spec print out contingent on deal execution. many will come out of spec from factory. you want all the caster you can get.

check for Hvac noise at full blast.

run a carfax to check for any dubious vehicle history records. have fun!

Hello and welcome.

Are you looking for advice or opinions on options and trim levels? Or just areas to check out?

I’d recommend in terms of options, looking at least for lockers and the tow package. Those both expand capability and utility for you, and for future resale. Happy to answer other questions about options as well.

There’s really not that much to be aware of.

Recall work: make sure that door button mechanisms were replaced. The buttons might stick and then not latch properly. Easy fix.

Make sure the service was done at least every 12k miles. The 12k mile service should have replaced diff fluids. I’d confirm that.

The software update isn’t mission critical. I’d definitely have it done, but it didn’t change much at all. It mostly allowed the over speed warning to stay off.
