Looks like we have choices in US for Diff Skid Plates

I had mine installed by OWL, and it took their 2 guys about 6 hours also. I think this was their third or fourth install, so it would seem that the 6 hours is a pretty good standard time.

Three things concern me,
The dealer had to drop one of the plates to do a re-call on one of the wires/cables that needed to be re-positioned. That cost me a little bit of cash
Owl still hasn’t posted a video- and they have installed a number of them- so why is that?
Thirdly, with no evidence besides the comments here, I think that this is V1 and that they are working in V2 that will be easier to install- and also make it so that the plastic can be replaced with out dropping the metal plates.

From what I understand, you need access to the backside of the Aluminum panel to be able to hold the bolts that the UHMW plastic plate bolts into. ( I hope I’m wrong on this and please post if I am). That negates as major reason for the kit, in my eyes. Scrape the crap out of the plastic, get under there, maybe with out a lift even, remove the plastic and bolt on a new one. If it is basically a full re-install- granted with out the cross member issue, that would suck.

Also, let’s say that the plastic gets majorly jacked up - it’s plastic, it happens. Can you unbolt the plastic with out
That is the risk, fun, or challenge with being an early adopter.

We are early adopters with the Grenadier and its warts. And early adopters with accessories and their warts. I was one of the first with the owl flat earth roof rack, and it didn't fit well, need some modifications. I gave them the feedback, Owl listened, and they changed their production. There is still really no good way to bolt items to the rack, a real downside.

Helping ColoradoMike and DanaJa install their Owl skid plates, the answer is yes, if you need to replace the UHMW plastic, you are going to have to drop the skid plate. But that stuff is soooo durable and slippery, I bet you never have to replace it.

Seems like if they tack-welded the UHMW nuts to the plate, that would solve the problem of taking the panels off to do the same

Yep.
Nuts are steel, plate is aluminum, but there is probably a PEM nut that would work. It would need to be floating, as assembly winter to summer is going to be a length difference in that long aluminum skid plate that would make it difficult. But there has to be a way to do it.
