That's already part of the ADAS system I Presume. So radar and most of the software are already there. They just have to tick the box.

My '24 (5/24:build) has it listed in one of the ADAS menues but it is grayed out.

The dealer told me in Dec when I collected mine that these where a requirement for mining companies which is a market they are after.
Glad I got mine before all these nanny things are added.

The influence that ANCAP the non-government, government funded auto advisory group is pushing these changes for the new safety systems, nothing to do with mining. Big mining companies have that many driver monitoring add ons for light vehicles that can be easily downloaded when an event occurs.
It will be a good while before Grenadier is a mainstream mine fleets, at least in Australia, it's still too niche for most big fleets. When it arrives the 4500kg Ford Ranger will likely knock Toyota sales around and become prevalent in mining fleets.

My volvo has these capabilities (of course its a volvo). I don't think of it as a nanny system but as a system of last resort. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) isn't a bad thing at all. I have had zero false positives (needless braking). I've heard that some korean cars has been braking randomly with their first generation of these systems, but i assume that the suppliers have matured this pretty well by now.

Adaptive cruise control is really nice, my Defender had it and it worked flawlessly. It also had AEB (with pedestrian detection) but i was never in a situation to trigger it and it never triggered inappropriately. The radar lies behind the front Land Rover badge. IMO these are positive features with no reasonable drawbacks that should be included in vehicles priced as the Grenadier is priced. Especially given that ADAS already exists in the Grenadier, which as a system has both fewer pros and more cons.

100% agree that AEB is a net positive, unlike other ADAS.

In the name of freedom-to-drive-what-you-want, I'd still rather see all these systems as options. (Charge more for insurance if the actuaries say so.) But I have AEB on my Sprinter and I would always pay for the AEB option. You never know AEB is there until an "oh shit" moment and then it will genuinely try to save your skin. I've had it trigger twice in three years and both triggers may have been premature but still very reasonable.

Aside, the Sprinter ADAS speed-limit and lane-keep nanny is less annoying and can be fully disabled. And I would not pay for that option again if I had a choice.

Most people do not know that new ADRs are comming in unless it is seen in the media well and truly after any real technical magazines have reported it. Like the US and Europe, Australia brings in new Australian Design Rules in very quietly and generally overshadows them with other more news worthy policies or content.

I mean we have been talking about Adas not being law in Australia for the past two years in this forum. No one knew that march 2025, it will become law? Government doesn’t drop this news with days of eta right?

I mean, here's an article from 2021 that spells out March 2025 as when the law comes into effect for all vehicles sold in Australia. It definitely wasn't a secret lol

Don't forget the average Grenadier owner has a superior intellect compared to the hoi polloi.
So rapid googling comes naturally to us, because we are less swayed by frivolous distractions...

I get hire cars often and am sick of the stupid flashing in the side mirrors to tell me there is a vehicle next to me.
I know, it is a multilane road. I can look out the window and see the vehicle.
Lane keep assist is another one.
Fighting with the steering wheel because the damn vehicle doesn't want to take a smooth line through the bend.
Warning me that there is a car in front of me......I know I am looking out the windscreen.

But what’s the point of this reflection? Personal anecdotes of own’s superior driving skills doesn’t mean anything in a statistical context. Those feature are meant to help avoid roadway accidents, deployed to tens of millions of drivers with a diversity of driving skills. It’s meant to affect overall safety trend, across a large set of drivers.

In that context your anecdote has zero weight, right?

To make this a bit more self-centered argument - Would you be appreciate if a driver falling asleep at the wheel had the aid of lane keep assist, to avoid smashing heads-on into your manually steered vehicle?

I disagree.
All drivers have a diversity of skills but they all should have a minimum skill set at least, or get off the road.

Teaching people that they don't need to focus or take responsibility for their actions is a major problem.
What if the little light in the mirror doesn't work and someone relies on it and just changes lanes.

They think they don't need to look out the windscreen because the vehicle will automatically keep in the lane, adjust the speed and apply the brakes if the vehicle in front stops. Maybe they can get on their phone or do their makeup.

You avoid accidents by focus and concentration. Not giving up control to a machine.

This is why we have these clowns climbing into the back seat of their Tesla and letting auto drive take over.

I have driven on the autobahn at 230 kmh (143 MPH) and believe me I was looking out the windscreen, holding the wheel, not chatting and I was focussed.
I was also overtaken by several cars and a motorbike.
