Letter to Lynne Calder

Further questions....

I an emailing Lynn again tonight or tomorrow, My list of questions so far is.
Recap of previous questions. What progress has been made?
When manual?
Windscreen issues?
When software update for MY24.1?

Any other common questions? I'm not going to go back with every individual gripe or query but if there are common issues experienced by multiple owners I'll raise them...
Heating system is still a common complaint

Don't want to distract from the core workshop manual issue. If Lynn is receptive, would be nice if we could rotate the tyres ourselves without a trip to the dealer to reset the TPMS sensors.

Agreed and noted. although I think that maybe possible already.. I'll check.

24.1 software update is here.. no need to ask her.

Ask her about the power steering pump whine. Is Ineos content with that sound associated with their fleet?
Mine makes no noise at all so I have no experience of this... I suspect that those affected are drawing air somewhere based on tractors I have owned.. Have owners with this issue checked the tightness of the hose clamps on the intake side of the pump and bottom of the reservoir? This would need to be done when the pump has not been running for at least an hour to allow all the bubbles to clear.
I can ask if they are aware of it.

If open for questions;
How many times they can try to stop safari roof from leaking before it's looked at by IA themselves?
I think everything has been done now but they still leaked last night when parked on drive at 10degree angle, facing up hill. 🤬
Same for the heating system?
If they could fix this and have more repair centres around the country for everyone plus the access to workshop manual for home DIY I'd be happy.
Looks like a roll of gorilla flex seal tape is in your future.

Whatever the issue, I think it’s under warranty and it’s their job to fix it, not to keep raising the acceptable db level and call it good. Mine came quiet, after 15k it now has a little, which portends bad things in the future and means it doesn’t necessarily mean people can simply avoid bad units on the car lot. Some have an unsellable piece of crap due to how loud it is. That isn’t right.

It would be great if you could kindly ask why some Grenadiers (mine is May 23) have a condensation dripping issue and the HVAC sometimes blows roasting hot (in hot weather) and sometimes blows really cold (in auto) resulting in condensation drips on the passenger footwell. This is a common issue not just isolated to older models like mine.

My July 2024 build (MY24) also has condensation dripping. However, there is a TSB on that. So, not sure its something that needs to be raised (the fix is to lag the pipe).
The HVAC hot/cold issue certainly needs to be addressed and is probably the most universal issue. (along with why doesn't the HVAC blow warm on your legs when it is minus 6 °C outside - you need to switch to manual to do that).

I would also ask why it takes so long for warranty work to be approved between the agent/dealer and Ineos (3 months and waiting for me with two common faults that are awaiting the go ahead from ineos - rear sensors stuck on when reversing, and clicking heater valves when very cold, and heater working hard - one of the dealer cars was also doing that)

My rear sensors were like that. Dealer just changed them and all good.

If you don't mind, please add the front driveshaft Rzeppa (CV) joint to the list. The transfer case side joint is prone to having the rubber rip and dump grease leading to the failure of the joint and potentially catastrophic damage. It is also a very real safety hazard if the CV lets go as the car will immediately lose forward propulsion unless the transfer case is locked. If this happens on the highway or pulling into traffic then someone is going to get hurt.

A few weeks ago Rusnak Ineos replaced my front driveshaft at 12,000 mile under warranty because the boot was damaged. I do not have a lift. They said they are seeing plenty of these and even keeping front driveshafts in stock. They also confirmed that the replacement part was exactly the same as the failed part. The CV rubber needs and/or CV design needs an engineering change. Mark my words, this will turn into a recall as soon as they have the first injury.

BTW: I love my Grenadier and can live with the little annoyances but this is a legitimate safety concern.

I will add that, there have certainly been many reported failures.

I second that issue being bought up Tom. As you maybe aware my CV joint failed then flailing prop shaft caused gearbox all gearbox oil to be lost due to damaged components (gearbox thermostat I think)
Also bring up the auxiliary rad mounting issue please as this has affected quite a few people including some of those traveling right now.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for doing this.

Can you raise the issue of getting an OBD reader and allowing us to fix the service interval (and tire pressure).

Also, I would like to see if we could have a list of potential software enhancements updates that user could up-vote on for the next release.

For me:
1. Camping mode, so the battery does not run flat due to door opening/closing.
2. Have an OBD reader on the main display - all the hooks are there already as far as I can see!

Regards,

Carpetman
