As the title says, let’s talk shovels. Besides the Rhino Rack that can be purchased with/from IA, what are you using/carrying in you rig?

I always carry a Jeep type 2 all-metal shovel and a small pickaxe in my vehicle. I've painted some parts of them red to make them easier to find in the field. However, for an expedition, I would take an extra longer shovel.
I also have two four-piece safety parkas and plenty of safety vests. The parkas can be used both in summer and in the icy winter. I also have plenty of tools and rescue equipment and from time to time I add or I exchange some parts to the equipment.

These are the last tools I bought. The open ended ring spanners are for the sensors on the exhaust pipe. The socket wrenches are for the differentials, and the 13 inch long 1/4-inch extension is just in case I need one.

A.M. Leonard forged round-point shovel with D-grip — an outstanding recovery tool built to last for generations. The only drawback: it’s on the heavier side.

DRIFTA RECOVERY AND DUNNY SHOVEL
I bought a new Recovery shovel and a Dunny shovel, from DRIFTA. They are lighter and more compact than my older shovel, plus they fit into an unused space between the bed extension foot and the cargo barrier inside the IG. Freeing up space under the bed extension to be used more effectively. The Dunny shovel (first image) can be stored with the Recovery shovel (second image), if needed.

A Dunny shovel is for Number 2's. :)

The video below shows both shovels being used. A powerful, yet compact combination. Combined kIt weighs less than than 3.2kgs.

AU based product, unaware if it is marketed under another name overseas.

The old shovel, still in good condition, was given to my nephew for his GU Patrol.

I have something similar for camp loo visits.

Simple folding entrenching tool. Works perfect. Takes up no room. Weighs very little. Costs about $25. Been using it for over 20 years. Can even fold the blade over and use it as a make shift chair….for those impromptu loo trips! It’s a shovel….haha…let’s not over think this!🤣

Fiskars narrow garden , thin enough to get between rocks, big enough to really move dirt or snow. Held on Leitner side plate mount with the 2 hole mod mount (still waiting for those 2 holes to be factory, Bernard) on and off in seconds, clears the Jerry cans and roof top tent foldouts.

Right to Left:
  • Legit Camel Trophy, Caldwell’s of England. Super comfy, low blade angle, owned for 30 years.
  • ExMoD Pioneering shovel, 60 years old.
  • Ex-German-Military, super flat, no-gap welded steel blade.

The exMoD is perfect in every way and my personal favorite, it just feels right. The German shovel is untested by me, but what I currently carry with the Gren.
