Iced over roads- Settings for traveling in such

OK, here in Texas we are expecting some serious ice storms over and through the weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on the settings while traveling in these conditions? I know the obvious one is to "Just stay home", but I am the only testosterone in the family (besides a neutered dog), so inevitably I am required to run errands, go to the liquor store, pick up toilet paper, etc. All that being said, would you suggest center diff locked in High, or something else? We may have some snow but sleet and freezing rain are the expectation for now. I would drop tire pressure down to 25 maybe if in agreement.

Go slow, go easy on the start, leave plenty of room between yourself and the car in front, make sure to have a warm coat, hat and gloves with you in case of an accident. I drive icy roads every day - I really only lock the center diff if I’m driving it off road in unplowed conditions. I wouldn’t drop tire pressure way down - maybe just a little. Increasing the contact patch can’t hurt. You’re in Texas - the most dangerous thing you’ll face in the next couple of days are other drivers being morons. Good luck, stay warm!

Down here we're gonna see 0*f and 12-16" of snow this weekend, so I called an emergency town meeting to position EMS in various locations, hand out up to date contact info to for our most vulnerable citizens to the CERT team, make sure spare O2 tanks are full in case of a power outage, and the gensets at the warming stations are serviced... yadd yadda yadda... He's like... "Ah yea, I'm going to see -25*F for the next 4 days, and all we do set out truck apps to start every 3 hours... "

We had 1-2" of snow a week or so ago in Uk, but a lor more in Scotland, news went into meltdown and Government was issuing amber warnings for cold weather.
Schools shut and warned not to travel if not necessary.
Imagine what would happen if we had your weather, it would be compulsory lock downs all over again.

It's weird for me - metric makes all the sense in the world and if we actually changed here the world would be a better place. But for me it would be like learning a foreign language where I would have to translate everything in my head; I'm not sure it would even become instinctual. Certainly for me, it's the temp thing that I would struggle with most.

100 degrees being body temperature.

All reasonable. Apart from being 459 out on the absolute zero and that it is rats that have a body temperature of 100.

It was just that Daniel Fahrenheit was born in the late 1600s where he didn't have all the tools available that Andus Celcius did best part of a hundred years later (and Lord Kelvin another 100 years later)

And we have to use special washer fluid. So it's mostly just alcohol at that point.

Metric is better in almost every way. When I was in school in about 1980 they were going to start teaching kids metric and parents actually went to the school board to complain. I do still have to convert all metric measurements to freedom measurements in my head though each time.

Actually - on that subject. One of the washer valves was getting plugged on my Grenadier. I had filled it with washer fluid rated to -35F. My dealer told me not to use that - just the standard stuff. I didn’t see anything about that in the owners manual

Yeah but you guys are in PA. Any blip and you’ll resort to cannibalism. Any blip for Wisconsinites and they just bring over a casserole and break out the brandy and Spotted Cow. My wife and I go up to this resort once in a while not far from your buddy - private cabins, snowshoe trails, lakes - very private resort with a lot of “no trespassing” signs. We went to a supper club one night and were talking to the locals - they asked where we were staying and we told them. Eyebrows all went up. Turns out they all thought it was some kind of sex club/colony, rather than a Relais and Chateaux property. I just shrugged. Why spoil the intrigue?

No idea I am afraid what high‑performance winter washer fluids w/ low freeze points are legal and available in Texas given state-specific restrictions on volatile organic compounds (Prestone?!). I am not aware of a distinct winter fluid thread but think I have seen discussions on this forum. I use the cheapest, and plenty if there is a lot of salt, no issues. I wanted heated valves but not sure if my ride has those.
