Headspace roof conversion!

Safari windows aren’t handled any differently for the Alu-Cab Silenus RTT. That entire section is replaced. This is one of the reasons why we bought our Trialmaster without Safari windows since we knew they would have a fairly short lifespan for our build.
I have been driving it for a good few weeks I’m 6 foot tall and have no issues with head height and I like to ride my seat quite high when offloading to see over the bonnet👍🏻

I just love the sleek, unintrusive looks of the thing, man!
One observation, though (being petty really): the brackets supporting the bed seem rather bulky.
Is that a compromise one has to live with, does it bother or is it only optics?

The interior transition is a part of the conversion that Alucab does much better. They use the external grab handle mounting bolts to fasten their camper to the Grenadier, whereas Headspace uses the interior front grab handle mounting points combined with the rear cargo barrier mounting points. The result is that the Alucab is much cleaner in the interior transition between the camper and the body of the truck. The trade off is that the exterior of the Alucab conversion is more bulky and higher profile. I prefer the the lower profile, sleek exterior of the Headspace and am happy to trade that for a more utilitarian mounting system on the interior.

Definitely agree on this point.

This is definitely a personal preference matter. The Silenus RTT looks pretty sleek ( not terribly bulky or high profile ) in person. The external design really fits the Grenadier in my opinion.

On that last note - In my ( brutally ) honest opinion you really ( I mean really… ) want to see your roof conversion of interest in person before committing so you’re able to go through the internal / external layout, details etc. on site. Internal / external sealing and finish work is another topic which is quite useful to discuss with the installers before hand. Seeing a finished example really helps in this regard.

For sure a matter of personal preference. I actually like the looks of the Alucab camper having seen it up close in person on three different Grenadiers. It fits the design of the vehicle very well and were it not for the new Headspace conversion I would be perfectly happy to have the Alucab on my Grenadier. The real decision point for me is the ability to fit the Grenadier in my garage and with the Alucab camper that would simply not be possible.

Off Road Gear Guys in TX is planning on importing them. It will be good to see one in person. Maybe by Mike Reeds Moab gig?

Headspace camper looks mint! Pretty sleek and maximum height and length it seems. Where it does lack is width in my opinion. Now it's all due to the design, however the gren is the widest roof 1.6m compared to troopy and defender, yet the narrowest bed. I get it's due to the approach in install but the width could be the game changer as roof top conversion to set grenadier apart. Surely someone doing poptops could use this to their advantage.
In saying that I don't know mattress width in mulgo or alucab.

But headspace:
Troopy 1250 (gutter to gutter 1450)
Defender 1300-1350 (gutter to gutter 1400)
Gren 1150 (gutter to gutter 1600)

The mattress width for the Grenadier Alucab conversion is 1180mm. This is 30mm or just over 1" more than Headspace. Not a material difference, but both are pretty narrow. To increase this would require cutting away considerably more of the original roof structure and would likely result in the removal of the OEM mounting points used by both Alucab and Headspace.

Indeed. That additional inch of mattress width can matter when you have multiple people sleeping up there.

You could always deflate the tires before entering the garage...!

I thought I'd post this here so it exists somewhere on the forum. I couldn't find any info about how Alu-Cab handles the Safari windows so I contacted them to find out. The area with the windows and aux switch panel is not cut away as one can see in the videos featuring the conversion. When asked whether there's a blanking panel or something to fill the space here's what they said.

"The safari windows can remain in place with the Alu-Cab Silenus Roof Conversion. We are investigating into possible products that we can use in that space for storage."

I've now committed to having the conversion done in late Apr or May when their next batch arrives.

I was planning to have the Alucab conversion installed, but I like the Headspace conversion so much more. If I can get one delivered to the US this will be going on my rig.
Off-Road Guys is bringing them in! We have 16 in a container headed this way.. we are excited to be bringing Headspace conversion stateside ! Give me a shout 361-254-1427

Interesting. I honestly can’t see the point of attempting to save the Safari windows if you’re going through the Silenus conversion since they would open into the lower portion of the RTT assembly:

Any possible storage within that area of the RTT is probably under 5 cm - if that. It also seems prone to failure since you’re laying on top of this region while sleeping. I brought this matter up with the installers I worked with ( I was curious… ) and the standard procedure was window removal due to these issues.
