The fuel excise has been cut, so why is diesel so expensive?

As the war in the Middle East rages on, diesel prices are continuing to rise despite efforts to stabilise costs. So why is this happening, can anything be done about it and is the worst yet to come?

That’s all I use. It’s says it on the door. The cost/mileage differential favors regular. I’m rarely doing anything but casual acceleration that I should benefit from the ability to advance timing more.
