Emergency lights

Went to my dealer today, was in the neighborhood, and did push the emergency or [EDITED] HAZARD light button, and was somehow surprised ...

I noticed in the videos that the white running lights are the front indicators and turn orange and flash when you indicate left or right.
The other one stays white and doesn't flash
 
That is quite normal. The light guide is used for two or three functions. You can see that at many cars today. Bright white for daytime running light, dimmed for position light and yellow/orange for turning indicator.

Different LEDs illuminate the light guide. When the light senses that there are 12 V on the turning indicator input, it switches from white to yellow. Then it waits either for a new turning light impulse or when a certain amount of time is over and no new signal has appeared, it switches back to white. The driver turned off the turning indicator. If the ECU of the car monitors these light functions it must stop that for a slightly longer period of time (when both light functions are off during the wait time) so it doesn't throw an error thinking one light has broken.

The dark part in the lower area of the light guide is where the light guide is bended and there are the LED's which illuminates the light guide.

So you are saying if the white light is of different intensities for DRLs and position lights or are 2 different lamps one lamp for DRLs and one for position .??
 
If both functions are implemented a different intensity is used.

In the UN-ECE regulations (Europe) you have two options. Lower the intensity of the DRL when the position light is switched on (and low and high beam) or switch it off.

BTW...you can have two position lights per site if one is part of the main headlight. That's why the Defender can use 7" LED's which have a position light. But you're only allowed to have one DRL per site.

Don' t know for the US.

If both are implemented yes. Why not, when the position light is turned on, the DRL has to be dimmed or switched off anyway.
