Diesel Diesel Oil Specification Thread (B57 Engines)

A 5W 30 still falls with a 0w 30 viscosity range specified. The difference is 5W 30 made with a higher viscosity base oil and has less viscosity improver that gets shear through normal operation. Between the 0W 30 and 5W-30 Penrite C2 and C3 is the viscosity is the difference. The C2 oil apparently has around 2% better fuel economy under test scenario but in real life likely there will be no difference.
Not Ineos related but still interesting in regards to engine oil. For the last 15 months I have been working with a colleague oil sampling two V8 79 Land Cruisers delivered new with in a couple weeks of each other. One dealer serviced 0W30 one on 5W30 and with the 5W30 we found the oil viscosity between service decreases less by percentage then the 0W30. Note the 0W30 viscosity decrease wasn't excessive and didn't take the oil out of the miniumum specification and was not detrimental to the engine. Also noted was how long up to 20k km before an engine starts to return consistent oil sample results. We also tested various brands of new oils for comparison to get some baseline results to compare used oil against. My colleague unintentionally discovered through requesting a sample of the new oil that one dealer had changed brands and was or one of their mechanics was putting the wrong oil viscosity 0W20 C5 into new V8 LC 70s. An easy mistake when a workshop has various viscosity oils on tap.
As a general observation from oil samples on various engines large and small over the years I believe the oil in daily use private vehicles pushing 20k 30k km oil change intervals is going to protecting very little by the time a service rolls around and damage is slowly being done to the engine as a result.

Modern warranty is a marketing tool. Compare the warranty on the same engine sold in different markets.

Same applies to service intervals. Marketing first, durability second.

BMW twin power 5w30 LL04 C3 is the oil that BMW use in Australia for B57 Diesel motors, and all their other current Diesel motors, they say C2 is only for Europe, and as mentioned before not robust enough for Australia.
