My cooling fan comes on and runs quite aggressively for up to 10 minutes after the engine is switched off. I always feel a bit awkward wondering off once parked because I’m sure many people think I’ve left the engine on.

Is up to 10 on running time normal?

My truck does this especially after pulling it into the garage. Its loud. I never saw this behavior in any of my trucks or cars. Not one of them.

Mine also does this - i've noticed it a lot lately but we're in summer with warm temps (40 degrees c) lately. Yesterday was a cooler day though and it didn't run for as long I noticed.

I've also noticed then when i get back into the car, even a couple of hours later the internal temp of the car seems warmer than ambient and the car blows hot (overly hot) air for the first 10-15 seconds once turned on.

It feels like the car runs a lot hotter than other car i've had - that said, I never see and high temp alerts on the system. Are you both in warmer climates?

10 minutes is longer than I have noticed, but mine certainly runs for a few minutes after I turn it off when it is warm out. I have an X5 with the same engine and it does the exact same thing. Both are pretty loud in the garage when this happens.

BMW have been doing this for years.

They seem quite obsessed with heat management including such things as a having the cylinder head and block on two different cooling circuits, ECU controlled coolant flow rates, a separate circuit for the turbo cooler and more.

It may be they are trying to improve component service life, but I suspect it may be more related to emissions.
