Hello, I live in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada and we are neighbours. I am thinking about acquiring a Grenadier. However, the closest Ineos service point would be a 5000k return trip.
Do you have a service point in Alaska? If not, how are you doing to ensure proper warranty ?
Thanks a lot!

Hey there, not sure about locally as I do most of my own maintenance, mechanic by trade. I'm still awaiting manual access, which is apparently being rolled out slowly to owners, just got mine in July... however, lots of good info posted here for basic level maintenance. Warranty work/service would have to be done by an INEOS service center and the closest unfortunately is in Seattle with Elliot Bay. However, they may have flown a tech up here recently for some software updates. I believe there is a shop in Anchorage that is somewhat familiar with the INEOS but I'll leave that to the other that have used them here.

We don’t have an local authorized shop than can do reimburseable warranty work however we do have a very good shop that is quite familiar with the B58 engine and the ZF transmission and can do most regular maintainence. Regular oil changes, coolant fluid replacement, and things like brake pad and rotor replacement are very straight forward and could likely be done in Whitehorse or by you if you have the inclination.

We did recently have the Seattle dealer tech fly up from Seattle to do the factory warranty software update and door lock recall compliance work but neither of those items require much in terms of shop equipment beyond simple hand tools other than pc with the proprietary software to read engine codes and reset maintenance reminder notices. A group of local owners paid out of pocket for the costs of bringing the tech up but charges were very reasonable and we split them three ways for the three owners who needed work done.

Something major like a transmission replacement or any work that would require substantial equipment like a lift or special shop equipment will likely require us to go to Seattle for repairs done under warranty so buyer beware.

The one area that is somewhat of a problem is windshield replacement. Many of us have serious windshield cracks. The bad news is that though we can buy and ship windshields here but, so far, none of the local glass shops have agreed to replace the windshields as they don’t have access to the proprietary software needed to recalibrate the ADAS system.

The good news is that Elliot Bay Seattle has replaced many windshields so far and none have required recalibration. We are hoping to convince a local glass shop to try.

You are more than welcome to stay in touch or visit if we can help.

Alaskan Grenadiers.

I recently checked out my coolant reservoir levels and found out that mine were a little low. I didn’t need much but I did need some so I got the proper coolant from the BMW. I likely have enough left to top one or two of off if you need any. I also discovered the easy procedure to have the engine go through its internal bleeding procedure after a refill which is somewhat like a minor tune up for the HVAC system. Call me if you need to do this and I will drop by with some coolant and teach you the procedure. It’s pretty quick.

A major leak or fluid replacement requires the system to be vacuum pressure filled which as yet is beyond my pay grade and requires some special equipment. That process is usually helpful if the HVAC performance degrades.

On another note, I just got my Ineos credentials to log into the online maintenance website which is good for the next 12 months.Mif any of you want to browse through it, give me a call or send a note.

This was my major concern when I first got on the list back in 2021-23(?). I was a bit intimidated about the prospect of driving a new car from Seattle in March up the Cassiar to Whitehorse and then on home. New in the sense of both a new model fresh from the factory as well as a yet not quite proven design (though I had seen one in the flesh prior and was very impressed.)

I also went into the deal with eyes wide open about the need to have warranty work done in Seattle or paying out of pocket for something done here.

I bought mine in a Seattle and did a 1,500 mile shakedown cruise from a Seattle, Boise, Portland and then back to Seattle. I wanted to make sure that anything that needed fixing got fixed before I headed home. That proved to be a smart plan. I had two major issues that required attention, an unusual, one off software problem, and a heating and cooling system problem that would have been a huge pain in the middle of the YT, a 1,000 miles between home and Seattle.

I got both of those issues sorted out before heading home and have had no issues since. Imam a very happy owner.
