Have done 5000 miles since oil change. Today had oil level warning, add 1L for on road and 1 for off road. Diesel and do occasional 2.5T towing.
Added a litre and now on- road and off- road both OK now.
Never used any during first 7000 miles, that was with factory fill Petronas oil.
So worst case scenario- consumption 1 litre per 5000 miles. Best case scenario- oil change was slightly under fill but enough to register OK on - road. 0.5 needed for off' road. Now off- road OK so extra 0.5 been added. Actual consumption circa say < 0.25l. (0.25 short on oil change aka oil filter full up + 0.5l extra in to off road OK mark.
Going to monitor regularly to check if it is consumption.
Anybody else have oil consumption? Thoughts.

Interesting. I’m on 13500 miles, car is just over two years old, just had second service and never had to top it up. Done a fair bit of towing too.

TBH it is the first time in decades I've had to top up oil between changes. Apart from a Disco 2, the Disco 3 and 4 were oil tight. I am a bit bothered, because the factory fill was oil tight during the bedding in period. No sign of drips nor smoke but it is the 0w-30 oil in the diesel.
@IneosGrenadierTech (Tom) have you any experience of oil consumption in the diesel?

I had a top up 1ltr notice sometime after 2nd service (servicing was done early each time so only on 14,000 miles). Previously it has always said add 1/2 litre for off road use. I hadn't looked after the service but some miles?? later it said top up 1ltr. After driving approx 10 or 20 miles it said over filled. Then after another 10 or 20 it went off, then repeat again and again. Currently it's off🤞

Quick question, when you put @username, is that supposed to message that person? Someone mentioned my username once as though I should see it but only happened to by chance. Is it in my settings

For them to get an alert that you mentioned them, it has to be set up in the main forum settings. Mine is set that I only get an alert if there is a post in Scottish Grenadiers and if someone @me in the main forum

I'm being to wonder if the oil check display operates in sympathy with the SOC reading, and adblue reading. Guesstimate that fluctuates depending whether there is a "d" in the week day.

Mine would come on at start, go off when warm then come back on after a while, basically just randomly.

That's probably half my problem, turn the computer off as soon as I finish work and only look at phone to see what all the other old men are discussing on the forum

Found it on the phone. Tap on your picture/avatar and select preferences, then scroll through all the tick options

I haven't noticed any Grenadiers ever come back with oil consumption in 2 years almost. Now some of them are over 50k miles etc. My only suspicion could be that since the oil is measured in 500ml quantities, it's a little less specific than as would be expected. Even an oil leak producing 500ml would be easily visible.
More than happy to see you add oil back in partially too, these electronic sensors are great for misreading the level and tricking you into adding too much at once. I'll say it again, what was wrong with a simple dipstick?
