Afternoon All, just had the IG into Stirling Trailer Centre for a couple wee jobs. Something that had come up with STC in previous conversation, was around wheel alignment and adjustments they had made to their own IG, was something I wanted to try out, so work carried out yesterday at what was a reasonable cost.
Pleased to say its made a difference, whilst its hard to describe, the driving impression is of calmer steering, it feels like it tracks better and requires less input and correction on long straight roads, such as the dreaded motorways. In case you are wondering It hasn't made any difference to self centering characteristics(but I'm not fussed about that).
Just to add, STC were as good as I have come to expect, with Mhari taking care of everything and maintaining standards.

So in conclusion, based on my experience so far well worth considering.

Hi @McGeordie do you know exactly what adjustments they made? I'm lead to believe that the biggest improvement to steering behaviour is gained by maxing out the front wheel forward camber by adjusting the cams in the front axle link arms. I'm planning to ask my long-suffering service centre in Huntly to do this for me at the first service which is due in the next month or so.

Also I take it that this was a paid job and not something they were offering under warranty?

G-Man, they were fairly guarded on specifics, however the tech told me more camber and less castor. Yes it was a paid job.
I've now dome a 100 miles +, since it was done and its definitely better, only really noticeable on long straight sections, but worth it IMHO

Thanks @McGeordie. Do you think STC would be happy to exchange the details with a fellow INEOS service centre (Marshalls in Huntly)?

Hello mate.

Interesting! How bad was your vehicle before for wandering at speed? Have you driven any others to compare?

I’ve not noticed mine doing it but perhaps correcting it is entirely sub-conscious. I don’t do a lot of dual carriageway or motorway driving, been down to England a few times and generally the motorway is a finger and thumb on the wheel job.

My steering is the same even self centres to a degree

I've not had any issue with my steering - tracks great in a straight line. Dont have to think about correcting it on a dualler/motorway.

KBKLR had his front end geometry adjusted at G&L Marshall and is very happy as far as I can remember.
Yes I remember him saying he had a problem with it. Glad he got it sorted though, Marshalls are great

Hi mate, It wasn't bad, I drove my friends TM and thought his was better..I wasn't really trying to fix something that was annoying me .it was more that I was interested as STC said the settings in their own IG had improved it, sorry I can't give you better insight mate, but if you are down my way and want to try mine, you are most welcome to do so

That is correct Steve - was better when I got the car back and it no longer wants to head into the left ditches. Im sure there is a little bit more improvement out there, but it felt like mine was set up for a LHD camber.
