This week I’ve been on the mainland and making a point of acknowledging ‘classic/proper’ defender drivers. Just the raised hand. I wanted to see if they would respond to a Grenadier. Interesting results. So far……

4 Defender drivers have not responded.
9 Defender drivers have raised a hand.

One of the nine went so far as to follow me through a car park so that he could park alongside for a chat. He said his wife made him do it :) !
Also close encounters with two hugely interested supermarket carpark users, drawn to the Grenadier and full of questions.

The Grenadier is certainly a conversation starter!

I usually get a wave from old defender owners but I wait for them to wave first 😂.

I’ve had quite a few waves from defenders, not sure if they realised I was in a grenadier though 😂

I don’t tend to wave unless they do first - in which case I always reply

Once back on the island I stopped my count.... everyone waves to everyone here. Just routine. Cars, cyclists, pedestrians - all acknowledged. Many bemused tourists as you can imagine. The problem is once back on the mainland - it takes effort to overcome the muscle memory, so lots of motorists must wonder why they've been waved to 😂

My next mainland trip I will restart my count.... decision: be proactive and wave? Or reactive and let them wave first?
